The Great Phone Debacle

So most of you know our dear, sweet puppy Frosty.  And those of you who know her know she's a little bit crazy.  The new year has changed nothing in her and so she decided to start our new year off with a bang (or shall I say a hiss)...

Last Sunday while Todd and I were playing Donkey Kong (yes, we are just big kids) she got ahold of my cell phone, and we didn't even notice.  She took it under our pool table, managed to get the back off (it was loose from another chewing incident when she was first with us), and put a puncture wound into the battery.  Apparently she found this all quite boring because she then left it laying under the pool table.

We discovered in a few minutes later and Todd commented that the battery felt EXTREMELY hot.  No sooner had he said something that it started to hiss... so Todd ran it up and threw it into the kitchen sink where it proceeded to start smoking.  Luckly Frosty did not seem phased by the whole event, so we knew she hadn't ingested any battery acid.

So with my phone completely incapacitated we decided to order a new battery online instead of taking it to the Verizon store.... which left me without a phone for 5 days (and actually this proved not to be as awful as I expected).

So everyday I came home eagerly anticipating the arrival of my new battery.  On Friday as we were coming home, when I told Todd I REALLY hoped my battery had come he responded with, "Well, I just really hope it fits."  Now, this was a scenario I had not even invisioned.  I mean, why wouldn't it fit?  But alas, I remained optomisitic, and was thrilled to find the package in our mailbox!

I went into the the house, opened the package, found my damaged phone (it also had some bite marks in it), and with great excitement got the new battery out... I was literally singing "Halelujiah" the entire time!  So in the spirit of Clark W. Griswold I drumrolled in my brain and dramatically and slowly put the new battery into my phone...

IT DIDN'T FIT!  Are you kidding me??  How was this possible??  Todd came in as I start to mildly freak out.  We decide that we will go to the Verizon store and look into the price of either a new battery or new phone since we were sure we weren't up for a new phone upgrade until April.

So we trek up to the Verizon store and found it (THANKFULLY) pretty empty.  We were, however, quite disappointed when they told us they had no batteries in stock so they would have to order a new one.... for FORTY dollars... and it would take about another FIVE days to arrive!! Ugh... couldn't we have just done this in the first place???

Just to be sure we inquired about when I would be up for an upgrade.  January 16th!  Now that was unexpected (apparently the new phone upgrade is every 20 months, not 24)  Ok... so 9 days... I could manage that, right?  But wait!  When was Todd up for an upgrade??  NOVEMBER!!!

So in the end the amazing Verizon girl got Todd a new phone, switched my number onto his old phone, and managed to find a battery in the back of the store so that she could save all of my contacts!  All for only $10 (after the rebate)!  And... she told us that if we come in within 30 days to upgrade my phone and I get the same one as Todd it would be FREE (because the phone is on special, buy one get one free)!

And that is how Frosty's destructive behavior got us 2 new phones and a Verizon store miracle!  I mean... has anyone EVER come out of a Verizon store smiling and happy?? Not usually.... But I was totally ready to hug the girl that helped us out... so THANKS, VERIZON GIRL.  You granted me my first new year miracle.

Feel free to chew bones, Frosty... but not our new cell phones!
PS... this was when we first did our new flooring, hence the saw dust ALL over the floor.
